Then Jesus said, “The kingdom of God is like a man who plants seed in the ground. The seed comes up and grows night and day. It doesn’t matter whether the man is asleep or awake; the seed still grows. The man does not know how it grows. Without any help, the earth produces grain. First the plant grows, then the head, and then all the grain in the head. When the grain is ready, the man cuts it. This is the harvest time.” Mark 4:26-29
God does amazing things; we play our part.
Sowing Roots was founded in January 2023 after 6 months of vision and planning. We are dedicated to sharing the Christian faith and love of God with children and young people in schools across East Cheshire. We seek to do this through topical workshops, RE lessons, and collective worship, all of which support the national curriculum, as well as the national and Christian calendars. We also provide wellbeing hubs, lots of different lunch clubs, and prayer spaces.
Children and young people are at the heart of what we do. Research shows that 95% of children have never been to church or have any church background in their families or communities. At Sowing Roots we want to engage with children in the spaces where they are, and with 98% of children being in some sort of school setting, it's in schools that we want to be.
We are not the church and we do not seek to be. Our vision is to partner with local churches and other Christian communities as we work and serve in local schools. We aim to support churches as they develop work in schools by offering resources, time, and experience. With 72% of Christians coming to faith before they are 20 years old, our vision and mission could not be more important.
We believe in the one true God who lives eternally in three persons - the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
The love, grace, and sovereignty of God in creating, sustaining, ruling and redeeming the world.
The incarnation of God’s eternal Son, the Lord Jesus Christ - born of the virgin Mary; both divine and human, yet without sin.
The atoning sacrifice of Christ on the cross: dying in our place, paying the price of sin, and defeating evil, so reconciling us with God.
The resurrection of Christ; his ascension to the Father, and his reign and mediation as the only saviour of the world.
The ministry of God the Holy Spirit, who leads us to repentance, unites us with Christ through new birth, empowers our discipleship and enables our witness.
